Habitat for Humanity
of Mid-Ohio

In the fall of 2021 Hilliard Adopt-A-House submitted an application to Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio to solely sponsor a faith partnership build of a new home. In December 2021 we were tentatively assigned a 4-bedroom "Rachel" house at 332 Hosack Street. That assignment was confirmed in February 2022. We began work on site mid-May.

The photos below are from Saturday, April 15, 2023 when we returned in the spring to do the landscaping, redistribute and level top soil, spread grass seed, lay straw, re-lay the stepping stones, sand the puttied screw holes in the exterior door frames and trim, caulk the exterior door trim, and paint the exterior door frames and trim.

Project history:

  • March 14, 2022 - Photos from multiple angles of the lot and the surrounding properties.
  • April 21, 2022 - It all begins with the dig!
  • April 22, 2022 - The forms are in place to pour the footings.
  • April 25, 2022 - The footings are poured.
  • April 26, 2022 - The basement walls are poured.
  • May 1, 2022 - The basement walls are insulated.
  • May 2, 2022 - The basement walls are backfilled.
  • May 10, 2022 - A "pre-construction" meeting is held at the MidOhio offices with Habitat staff, the prospective homeowner family, and board members of Hilliard Adopt-A-House.
  • May 18, 2022 - Began installation of sill plates.
  • May 21, 2022 - Completed sill plates and began setting floor trusses.
  • May 24, 2022 - Set the double LVL joist, finished setting the single story section’s joists, installed fire rated drywall and rim joist along most of the kitchen/dining wall, set a section (12’) along the east wall, completed the basement load bearing wall and slipped the front strong back into place.
  • May 25, 2022 - Finished setting the LVL's and floor joists, continued setting the rim boards, began installing strong backs and continued installing fire-rated drywall on the OSB portion of the floor joists.
  • May 28, 2022 - Completed setting the rim boards (except next to the balloon wall), finished installing strong backs, completed installing fire-rated drywall on the OSB portion of the floor joists, and laid two-thirds of the first floor decking.
  • May 31, 2022 - Completed the first floor decking, added OSB and insulation board in prep for the rear porch concrete pour, added OSB on the front porch area, built guardrails for the basement opening on the deck, added a pony wall to the east of the stairwell opening, and moved three lumber packages into a second mobile mini storage unit.
  • June 1, 2022 - Completed the insulation board on the front porch area, leveled out the stones in the two porch areas, cut jacks, sills and cripples for the first floor walls, built construction steps for the front porch, built and raised the wall from the southeast corner to the stairwell, and built the right front wall for the wall raising ceremony on Saturday.
  • June 4, 2022 - Held the wall raising ceremony and completed the building and raising of the south and east exterior walls.
  • June 7, 2022 - Built and raised the north and northwest exterior walls.
  • June 8, 2022 - Built and raised several interior and exterior first floor walls, added OSB over the sill plate/floor truss areas, ran string lines to align the east, north and northwest walls, and caulked OSB seams.
  • June 9, 2022 - Concrete porches were poured.
  • June 11, 2022 - Modified temporary front porch stairs for the back porch, built all but one first floor walls, raised most first floor walls, nearly readied the west firewall for erection, and built and raised two basement walls under the stairwell trusses.
  • June 14, 2022 - Reworked the walls for the primary bedroom closet and pantry, finished building and raising all first floor walls, and pulled strings and made brace adjustments on all exterior walls to make them consistently plumb.
  • June 15, 2022 - Reworked two walls to move the basement door opening to the correct location, finished the OSB on the first floor exterior walls and rim boards, framed some pony walls for the basement stair well, QA'ed OSB nailing, caulked OSB seams, installed all but three cap plates on the first floor walls, and began floor truss layout.
  • June 18, 2022 - Finished installing the cap plates on the first floor walls, completed second floor truss layout, built and installed the two basement stair landings, built and raised two stairwell walls, added studs on inside corners for drywall, added ladder sections at the floor base and inside corners for baseboard deadwood, installed the front porch post anchors and prepped the front exterior wall for porch beams.
  • June 21, 2022 - Installed the microwave vent header and microwave blocking in the kitchen exterior wall, began construction of the front porch beams, and set the longer second floor trusses (those that span the full width of the house).
  • June 22, 2022 - Finished setting the second floor trusses, placed strongbacks through the trusses, installed cleats for the strongbacks, built small I-joists for the front floor trusses and installed rim joists on 3 1/3 of the second floor trusses.
  • June 25, 2022 - Completed the second floor rim joists, installed window guardrails on the first floor windows, nailed the second floor truss strongbacks to the cleats, cut and assembled three vertical stop blocks for raising second floor exterior walls, cut and assembled 17 king-jack pairs for second floor windows and doors, completed building and installing small I-joists for connecting the front rim joist to the first floor truss, built and installed most small I-joists for connecting the rear rim joist to the last floor truss, cut 40 2x3 furring blocks for the porch beams, and laid two-thirds of the second floor deck.
  • June 28, 2022 - Cut to length the four front porch posts, installed and braced the two end posts, assembled the two short front porch beams and installed the east one.
  • June 29, 2022 - Installed the remaining two center front porch posts and the long and short front porch beams, installed the top plate support blocks, installed two sections of the top beam plat, constructed and installed the second floor landings (less the OSB on the upper landing), and installed a wall nailer for the rear porch beam bracket.
  • July 5, 2022 - Back to back storms prevented any work.
  • July 6, 2022 - Afternoon rain made it a short day, but managed to add the remaining 2x6 caps on the front porch beam, fixed a badly bowed 2x6 wall with ladder blocks, and marked the location of the rear porch beams and relocated the post markings.
  • July 9, 2022 - Installed steps to the basement and second floor, installed a safety guard rail on 80% on the second floor, completed all but one sheet of the second floor decking.
  • July 12, 2022 - Finished the second floor decking, finished the guard rails around the second floor, installed temporary stair handrails, and marked second floor exterior walls locations.
  • July 13, 2022 - Constructed and raised the second floor west wall, and framed the second floor front wall.
  • July 16, 2022 - Delayed start due to rain, but rain continued longer than forecast, so we closed up shop without any work.
  • July 19, 2022 - Adjusted the placement of the second floor west exterior wall, sheathed and raised the second floor front exterior wall, repaired the stairwell sheathing that was destroyed by a storm the prior week, and built and attempted to raise the 2x6 balloon wall for the stairwell.
  • July 20, 2022 - Raised the stairwell balloon wall, corrected a couple of studs on an interior wall on the first floor, built and raised the second floor southeast exterior wall, framed the second floor northeast exterio wall segment, and framed half of the second floor north exterior wall.
  • July 23, 2022 - Framed, sheathed and raised the west segment of the second floor north wall, sheathed the stairwell balloon wall, sheathed and tried to raise the east segment of the second floor north wall but were thwarted by a severe thunderstorm.
  • July 26, 2022 - Completed the second floor exterior north wall, raised the northern segment of the east wall, adjusted the 2x6 balloon wall, snapped chalk line for the center wall location, built and raised the bathroom wall adjacent to the staircase, and reinstalled hand rails.
  • July 27, 2022 - Constructed and raised six walls in the eastern half of the second floor interior (walls around stairway, linen and clothes closet, and southeast bedroom entry), nailed the northeast corner OSB overlap, and removed wall strongbacks.
  • July 30, 2022 - Finished framing and raising all second floor walls (except the staircase sloped knee wall), corrected two doorways, and added cap plates to the second floor walls.
  • August 2, 2022 - Constructed and erected the rear porch beams, modified an interior door frame, added a couple of exterior wall braces to improve the wall lines, rearranged the tool mini lumber to provide room for our smaller roof rafters, and temporarily repaired the lumber mini's latch system.
  • August 3, 2022 - Nearly completed installing OSB around the upper rim joists, realigned one 2x6 stud, nailed a couple missed sheathing points, caulked OSB seams, made four sawhorses for working on gables, and completed the nailers and stiffners for both large gables.
  • August 6, 2022 - Finished installing OSB and rakes on the two second story gables and the one first story gable, drilled holes for the bathroom exhaust fan vents and the lower story gable rear outside lights.
  • August 9, 2022 - Finished installing OSB around the upper rim joists and continued gable truss preparation by adding insulation boards and cornice boxes and beginning cornice box aluminum construction.
  • August 10, 2022 - Moved the bathtubs to the master bedroom and master bedroom closet, somewhat secured the bathtubs, and continued gable truss preparation by completing 5 of 6 cornice box aluminum wraps, installing F-channel and soffit on two trusses, installing two pieces of fascia aluminum and installing the frieze board on the front gable truss.
  • August 13, 2022 - Continued gable truss preparation by completing the last cornice box aluminum wrap, installing the frieze board on the upper rear gable truss, hanging board and batten vinyl siding on the front truss, installing F-channel and soffit on the third truss, completing fascia aluminum on all trusses, and hanging traditional vinyl siding on half of the upper rear truss.
  • August 16, 2022 - Finished siding the rear upper gable, put nailers and OSB on three porch end gables, trimmed protruding nails along gable outside edges, installed kitchen cabinet blocking, made rafter alignment and marked locations of upper rafters on outside walls.
  • August 17, 2022 - Hung three rows of fire rated drywall on west exterior wall and taped the cut edges for weather protection.
  • August 20, 2022 - Marked metal spacer locations on the rafters, marked sub-fascia setting point on the rafter tails, installed nailers for front and rear porch rafters, did rafter layout for the front porch and the first floor bedroom, hoisted all first floor bedroom rafters to the bedroom walls, and set four first floor rafters leaving an opening for the tub hoist and ladders to fasten the second story gable.
  • August 23, 2022 - Made final preparations for the crane lift on Wednesday and moved newly delivered lumber into the mobile-mini.
  • August 24, 2022 - Raised the roof trusses, installed temporary bracing, installed the cat walks, and began installing permanent bracing.
  • August 27, 2022 - Completed permanent bracing of the gable trusses, prepped the porch end trusses with 1x4's and 1x6's, raised all porch trusses, bridged the roof area between the rear porch trusses and the primary bedroom roof trusses, installed all fascia boards and reorganized the mobile-minis.
  • August 30, 2022 - Began adding OSB to truss heels, completed the exterior fire-rated drywall hanging on the west wall with the exception of where the pump jacks connect to the house, added cornice returns and associated aluminum to the porch gable trusses, removed the extended length stairs from the landing to the second floor and installed the correct length stairs from the landing to the second floor.
  • August 31, 2022 - Completed adding OSB to truss heels, completed the exterior fire-rated drywall hanging on the west wall truss tails, installed hurricane clips on the house and porch trusses, built and raised the sloped knee wall for the stairwell, installed blocking for stairwell handails, cut out 2x4 thresholds in all doorways, and insulated and added housewrap to the bathtub walls in both bathrooms.
  • September 2, 2022 - Professional contractors begin sheathing the roof.
  • September 6, 2022 - Cleaned up the second floor from sheathing scraps and nails left by the roofers, put two layers of fire-rated exterior drywall on the east primary bedroom truss tails, added cornice box and aluminum on southeast primary bedroom roofline, covered exposed seams on stairwell balloon wall with 2-by material, installed insulation board on the primary bedroom west and north walls, installed insulation board and housewrap on the south gable of the primary bedroom, began installing insulation board on the east wall and began attic access framing.
  • September 7, 2022 - Completed the exterior fire-rated drywall hanging on the east wall truss tails, installed baffles between all house roof trusses, built the raised platform for the HVAC and water heater units, completed attic access framing, and continued installing insulation board on the upper north wall, west wall, and under the front porch.
  • September 10, 2022 - Hung insulation in half of the basement, added OSB to both back bathroom walls, built chases for both bathrooms, created longer cap nails, removed the extended length stairs from the first floor to the landing, installed the correct length stairs from the first floor to the landing, almost completed installing insulation board on the exterior walls, and moved the temporary stairs for the rear porch from the north edge to the west edge, so that concrete work can be done.
  • September 13, 2022 - Completed installing insulation board on the exterior walls sufficient for vinyl siding work, installed the J-blocks in prep for vinyl siding work, received the windows and exterior doors, installed sill pans in all windows, taped all windows, installed vinyl corner posts on the rear back corners of the primary bedroom, and installed double vinyl corner posts on the two front corners of the house.
  • September 14, 2022 - Completed hanging all outside vinyl corner posts, installed all first floor windows and exterior doors, and installed security Lexan over all first floor windows and exterior doors.
  • September 17, 2022 - Completed installing second floor windows, hung vinyl starter strips on all walls, began hanging vinyl siding on the west, north and east walls, added 2x4 soffit nailers in both porch ceilings, finished hanging insulation in the basement, began installing J-channel around the front porch, and began installing front window trim.
  • September 20, 2022 - Received the porch package (SmartTrim, balusters and bags of concrete), completed installation of the front windows' trim and continued hanging vinyl siding on the west wall.
  • September 21, 2022 - Received the replacement tub for the primary bathroom, cut, painted and installed the SmartTrim for the meter mount block, completed J-channel on the front porch, began hanging F-channel, continued hanging vinyl siding on the west and east walls, began hanging vinyl siding on the front porch, hung soffit on the west wall second floor eave and the east primary bedroom first floor eave and insulated behind interior wall ladders on the first floor.
  • September 24, 2022 - Continued hanging vinyl siding on the front porch, the east wall and the north primary bedroom wall.
  • September 27, 2022 - Put fascia aluminum on the upper west wall eave, completed J-channel and vinyl siding on the north primary bedroom wall, completed vinyl siding on the east wall up to the pump jacks' braces, painted six sides of all wide SmartTrim, put J-channel around the rear exterior door, and began putting F-channel under the front porch.
  • September 28, 2022 - Finished soffit on the east eaves, put fascia aluminum on the east wall eaves, installed J-channel and began hanging vinyl siding on the north upper wall, put a second coat of paint on the SmartTrim, finished F-channel under the front porch and put J-channel around the east porch gable and beam.
  • October 1, 2022 - Continued painting Smart Trim, installed Smart Trim under the front and rear porch beams and the back side of the front porch beams, completed the siding on the upper north wall, installed F-channel on the front and rear porch beams, installed a starting strip on the northwest wall, and began soffit installation on the northwest wall.
  • October 4, 2022 - Removed the two pump jack systems, continued painting Smart Trim, started to paint the balusters and handrails, continued with J-channel around the front porch and west porch gable, finished the F-channel on the rear porch eave, installed soffit over the front porch eave, and added most of the final row of siding to the east wall.
  • October 5, 2022 - Finished siding both east and west walls, started siding the rear lower west wall, wrapped siding up to the front porch roof, started siding across the front roof, completed the soffit over the rear porch eave and added its fascia aluminum, finished painting all Smart Trim as well as the 4x4 handrail posts and handrail and painted numerous balusters.
  • October 8, 2022 - Dug the holes and set the 4x4 posts for the front and rear porch railings, finished wrapping porch beams with Smart Trim, continued hanging vinyl siding, cut 20 front porch soffit panels and installed 8 (waiting for electrician to wire porch light), cut 4 rear porch soffit panels, installed J-channel around rear porch gable, and added insulation boards behind the deadwood ladders on the second floor.
  • October 11, 2022 - Put aluminum fascia over the front porch eave, continued siding the upper front wall, sided around the rear door, added J-channel around the rear porch beam, cut to size Smart Trim for the posts and routed out areas for post brackets, caulked the front beams, and painted the beams’ lower and inside Smart trim.
  • October 12, 2022 - Wrapped three of the five porch posts, completed the siding above the front porch, continued painting balusters, caulked and painted front porch trim, added J-channel around the rear porch beams, and relocated a couple of studs in the upstairs tub wall.
  • October 15, 2022 - Completed wrapping the remaining two posts, added base Smart Trim to posts, finished hanging vinyl siding on the rear porch, added siding to the two west porch gables, continued caulking Smart Trim and added a stud for the bathroom tub flange.
  • October 18, 2022 - Continued painting Smart Trim, finished hanging vinyl siding and installing fascia aluminum on the porch gables, replaced some of the vinyl siding on the east wall, corrected a few J-channel issues, and began construction of the front porch railing system.
  • October 19, 2022 - Continued painting Smart Trim and balusters, continued construction of the front porch railing system, braced the short wall next to the rear door, and added deadwood for drywall and baseboards.
  • October 22, 2022 - Continued caulking and painting Smart Trim and balusters, completed construction of the front and rear porch railing systems, began construction of the front steps' railing, completed replacing the east wall vinyl siding, and removed some of the rocks from the back yard.
  • October 26, 2022 - Continued step railing construction, continued caulking and touch-up painting on railing systems, replaced one east vinyl siding piece, and installed dead wood for the mailbox.
  • October 29, 2022 - Finished installing all hand railings, caulked and painted hand railings, finished installing porch soffits, cleaned up the lumber mini, swept first and second floors, added blocking on the second floor and caulked exterior seams on the second floor.
  • October 31 - DAK Electric completed electrical rough-in.
  • November 1, 2022 - Built the shed floor, built and raised the four walls for the shed, caulked more exterior seams in the house, spray filled holes between floors, added OSB in larger plumbing holes between floors, added deadwood for stairwell baseboard, and added deadwood in both bathrooms for the towel bars, ADA bars, and toilet paper holder.
  • November 2, 2022 - Added cap plates to the shed walls, built and raised the shed roof trusses, sheathed the shed roof, laid tar paper on the shed roof, completed spraying penetrations between floors, insulated around all windows, did general clean-up in the basement and the second floor, finished digging trenches for the conductor lines, laid conductor lines and fittings, and added drywall deadwood for two stairwell ceilings.
  • November 5, 2022 - Completed the conductor lines and fittings, filled in dirt under, around and over the conductor lines, finished nailing the OSB to the 2x6 frame on the shed, put housewrap on the shed, added gable trim to the shed, installed drip edge on the shed roof, hung all four vinyl corner posts on the shed, shingled the shed roof until we ran out of shingle material, hung vinyl starter strip for the shed, installed aluminum and J-channel around the shed door opening, completed hanging vinyl siding on the west side of the shed, installed the motion sensor light on the rear of the house, began putting fascia aluminum on the shed, and began installing insulation in the second floor exterior walls.
  • November 8, 2022 - Completed shingling the shed roof, finished the fascia aluminum on the shed, hung vinyl siding on the south and east side of the shed as well as half of the north side, installed the porch lights, and continued installing wall insulation (the stairwell is complete, the upstairs is almost complete, and the west wall of the main floor was started).
  • November 9, 2022 - Finished vinyl siding and Smart Trim on the shed, painted the shed floor, sanded the OSB seams on the second floor, relocated the shelving unit from the mobile mini to the basement, relocated most Habitat tools and supplies to the basement, painted the exterior of the front door, and completed installing wall insulation for the inspection.
  • November 12, 2022 - Sanded the OSB seams on the first floor, installed the shed door, moved all materials and tools to the basement shelving and the south end of the basement, moved the vinyl siding materials for the homeowner to the floor truss spaces in the basement, and prepped the areas for drywall stocking.
  • November 15, 2022 - Removed excess foam insulation on walls and around doors and windows, removed the painter's tape from the windows, removed all temporary handrails and fall-protection boards, added some large shims to make some walls fully ready for drywall, and moved all of our benches and tools to the basement.
  • November 18, 2022 - The professional drywall crew began hanging drywall.
  • November 19, 2022 - Re-routed the eastern conductor line to align with the southeast downspout, and drywall hanging was continued by the professional drywall crew.
  • November 21, 2022 - Taken after the professional drywall crew had finished hanging drywall and cleaned up the drywall scraps.
  • November 23, 2022 - The professional drywall crew completes adding corner bead and taping seams.
  • November 26, 2022 - After the professional drywall crew completes the final skim coat and texturing the ceilings.
  • November 30, 2022 - Blew insulation into the two attic areas, wiped down all walls, scraped drywall mud off the floor, vacuumed all areas, cut the hole in the drywall for the microwave vent, cleaned drywall mud off the tub areas adjacent to the walls, and began cut-in and rolling paint on the interior walls.
  • December 3, 2022 - Almost finished the second coat of paint on all interior walls and window openings.
  • December 6, 2022 - Finished the second coat of paint on all interior walls and window openings, scraped drywall mud off the first floor, vacuumed both floors and stairwells, scraped and sanded drywall mud off the upstairs stringers and the downstairs steps and stringers, repaired the rear porch railing that was damaged by the drywall delivery, put a first coat of paint over the rear porch railing repair, marked drywall anomalies with painters tape on all walls and window openings, puttied some large divots in the southwest bedroom subfloor, sanded various spots on the subfloor that couldn't be reached by the floor sander, installed the primary bathroom vanity, installed all kitchen cabinets against the west wall, and installed two of three kitchen island cabinets.
  • December 7, 2022 - Finished laying LVT flooring in all four bedrooms, both bathrooms, the upstairs hallway and the living room, started flooring into the kitchen and dining room, put the second coat of exterior paint on the front door, put the first coat of exterior paint on the front door brickmould, the rear door, and the rear door brickmould, put two coats of paint on the stair stringers going upstairs, and put two coats of paint on the indoor stair rails.
  • December 10, 2022 - Finished the second coat of exterior paint on the rear door and the front and rear door brickmould, finished installing the kitchen island cabinets, installed the upstairs bathroom vanity, and finished installing the LVT flooring throughout the house.
  • December 13, 2022 - Hung all interior doors, installed the door trim in the front two upstairs bedrooms, taped the floor vents, installed floor registers, installed screws for the mailbox, measured closets for shelving, and distributed various items to the appropriate rooms. American Air installed the A/C compressor and the new thermostat.
  • December 14, 2022 - Almost finished the door trim, filled nail holes in door frames and trim, taped all wall vents and covered with registers, repainted window openings, repainted some drywall repairs, installed door thresholds upstairs, completed mailbox installation, and readied the doorbell mount for painting.
  • December 17, 2022 - Installed baseboard in the three bedrooms upstairs, installed door trim on the backside of the basement door and laundry area, installed trim on both sides of the pantry/closet area, installed trim around the kitchen cabinets, installed the lock set on the front door, painted remaining drywall patches, installed window blinds in all bedrooms and the upstairs bathroom, and installed window shades in the living room, dining room and stairwell.
  • December 20, 2022 - Installed baseboard in the primary bedroom and bathroom, installed baseboard throughout much of the main room, installed baseboard in much of the upstairs bathroom, finished caulking and filling nails holes in two upstairs bedrooms, installed both kitchen counters, installed a door threshold between the primary bedroom and bathroom, installed additional kitchen cabinet trim where the baseboard was installed, and finished trim on the last door.
  • December 21, 2022 - Completed baseboard on the first floor (except the stairs interface), finalized trim around the kitchen base cabinets and primary bathroom vanity, painted the basement stairs stringers, added a coat of polyurethane to the handrails, and did a general cleaning in the kitchen area.
  • December 24, 2022 - No volunteer work on Christmas eve.
  • December 26, 2022 - DAK Electric began electrical finishing.
  • December 27, 2022 - Put first coat of paint on the upstairs bedroom and bedroom closet doors, touched up trim paint in the southwest bedroom, put second coat of paint on the basement stair stringers, added last coat of polyurethane on interior handrails, placed both bathroom vanity tops on the cabinets, installed the side splash for the kitchen sink top, stained the end cuts on all toe kick trim, and installed the back door knob set.
  • December 28, 2022 - Completed baseboards on the second floor and the upstairs stairwell, put a second coat of paint on the upstairs bedroom and bedroom closet doors, puttied all nail holes in trimwork upstairs, caulked all trim work upstairs, caulked cabinet trimwork, and cut the quarter round for both bathtubs.
  • December 30, 2022 - DAK Electric continued electrical finishing.
  • December 31, 2022 - No volunteer work on New Years eve.
  • January 2, 2023 - DAK Electric continued electrical finishing.
  • January 3, 2023 - Completed baseboard trim (except for the two boards leading to the concrete wall in the basement stairwell), put two coats of paint on the upstairs bathroom door and linen closet door, began caulking trim work on the first floor, built and installed the cap for the stairwell/hallway knee walls, put a first coat of paint on the knee wall cap, patched a few drywall and door frame anomalies, and began to paint interior doors on the first floor.
  • January 4, 2023 - Cut out a hole in the kitchen countertop for the sink, continued painting doors on the first floor, finished puttying nail holes in trim work, finished caulking trim work on the first floor, continued painting over puttied nail holes, put a second coat of paint on the knee wall cap, put two coats of paint on the cove moulding, installed cove moulding under the knee wall cap, painted a few drywall and door frame anomalies, installed quarter-round in front of the exterior door thresholds, installed shelving in the laundry room, primary bedroom closet and two upstairs closets, installed kitchen cabinet hardware, and began installation of interior door knob sets.
  • January 7, 2023 - Covered the concrete wall on the basement stair landing with pallet wood, completed trimwork on the basement stair landing, hung the house address numbers on a front porch post, continued installing interior door knob sets, continued installing closet and pantry shelving, continued painting interior doors, installed vanity trim pieces, caulked and painted the stairwell cap trimwork, put a final coat of paint on the stairwell cap, patched various wall anomalies, painted over patched wall anomalies, installed bathroom mirrors and towel bars, removed protective cardboard from the upstairs and the master bedroom, vacuumed upstairs and scraped and vacuumed the stairs in preparation for carpet installation on Monday.
  • January 10, 2023 - Laid carpet protector over the carpet in the upstairs stairwell, finished painting interior doors, finished installing interior door knob sets, finished the closet shelving, installed bathroom toilet paper holders, finished removing protective cardboard from all floors, swept and vacuumed several areas, continued caulking and painting over caulked areas, moved almost all materials and tools from the basement to the mobile mini, replaced the front door knob, patched various drywall dings, put a first coat of paint on all of the basement stair risers and half of the treads, installed the threshold trim between the first floor and the basement stairs, and installed peep holes in the exterior doors.
  • January 11, 2023 - Swept and vacuumed several areas, patched more drywall dings, completed caulking and painting over caulked trim work, painted over almost all patched drywall dings, installed the four interior stair railings, cleaned all of the upstairs windows, set the two bathroom vanity tops, caulked the two bathroom vanity tops, installed the remaining door stops, moved more tools from the basement to the mobile mini, put a second coat of paint on all of the basement stair risers and and a first coat on the remaining half of the treads, replaced the threshold trim between the stairwell carpet and the second floor LVT, installed a piece of threshold trim from the basement landing to the final set of steps, installed the two shower curtain rods, and painted and installed quarter round at the base of the carpeted stairs.
  • January 14, 2023 - Installed the microwave, changed many of the kitchen and dining area light bulbs, vacuumed and mopped all LVT floors, cleaned the bathrooms and kitchen, patched and painted the remaining drywall dings, removed the Lexan from the first floor windows, cleaned the first floor windows, cleaned and re-installed the window screens, moved remaining tools and toolbox from the basement to the mobile mini, cleaned the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, put a second coat of paint on the basement stair treads, helped load what was in the mobile mini at the time to the Habitat truck, and laid temporary stepping stone from the parking pad to the back porch.
  • January 17, 2023 - Laid straw and pressure washed the porches and sidewalk.
  • January 18, 2023 - Applied Old English to the cabinets and applied Bona luster finish to the LVT flooring.
  • January 21, 2023 - Dedicated the home.
  • April 10, 2023 - Puttied screw holes in the exterior door frames and trim.
  • April 15, 2023 - Returned in the spring to do the landscaping, redistribute and level top soil, spread grass seed, lay straw, re-lay the stepping stones, sand the puttied screw holes in the exterior door frames and trim, caulk the exterior door trim, and paint the exterior door frames and trim.
